Publisher Description

Introduction In the last two decades, much has been written about conflict management styles in the international context (e.g., Boonsathorn, 2007; Chen, 2001; Gabrielidid, Stephan, Ybarra, Pearson, & Villareal, 1997; Gire & Carment, 1992; Ma, 2007; Miyahara, Kim, Shin, & Yoon, 1998; Onishi & Bliss, 2006; Smith, Dugan, Peterson, & Leung, 1998; Wu & Stewart, 2005; Wu, 2008). The results of these previous studies suggest that there are links between cultural values and conflict management styles. Among many different cultures, conflict management in Chinese societies has attracted much scholarly attention because of the large Chinese population and the impressive economic growth in the Chinese societies. For example, a scholarly journal, Intercultural Communication Studies, published a special issue about Chinese conflict management in 2000. A book, Chinese conflict management and resolution, was published in 2002.
