Superstition In All Ages (Common Sense) is a book by Jean Meslier, originally published in 1732. The author was a French Catholic Priest - unusual given that the subject matter of the book (which was discovered after his death) promotes atheism and materialism. Filled with rational arguments against religion and discussing matters such as free will, the soul, morality, and the origins of mankind, the book gives an enlightened view of someone who, in his daily life, appeared to follow God's law. His place in the history books as the first person to put his name to an atheist document was hampered somewhat by the actions of Voltaire who published extracts of Meslier's work in a way that made him appear as a deist (like Voltaire), rather than an atheist.
