The Dragon Slayers

On the remote, rain-soaked world of Venus, life is a constant battle against the absurd, the dangerous, and the bureaucratic. For Pole and Bliss Kenton, the daily grind of harvesting pretzins is hard enough without vacuum snakes, flaming jungle dragons, and a federal office that seems determined to solve every problem with a memo. When disaster strikes their humble cabin, the Kentons do what any sensible frontier family would do: they appeal to the Pretzin Division. What arrives is a marvel of official efficiency—a tiny, pocket-sized solution meant for monsters far larger than anyone imagined. The result is a wildly inventive collision of domestic hardship, deadpan government logic, and outrageous alien menace. Frank Banta's The Dragon Slayers is a fast, funny science-fiction romp full of sly satire and gleeful invention. With its eccentric characters, comic tone, and delightfully impractical approach to survival, this story turns interplanetary hardship into a laugh-out-loud adventure. For readers who enjoy clever pulp humor, bizarre creatures, and bureaucratic absurdity in the face of danger, this is one dragon fight worth joining.
