Lenulita ,

Dont waste your time...

I love apocalyptic fiction be it zombies, vampires, viruses or crazy pinguins on acid.
Having said that...
What a disappointment this book turned out to be. I am happy to see that I am not the only one to think that I was totally deceived. I thought that somebody at the store was messing with me and had switched the actual book with a very dull, very un-interesting Mad Max/The Stand/I Vampire mess as soon as the first 250 pages were over... What was the message here? That nothing is for ever? And killing off all the major characters after the reader has invested in them is the way to go? And then having totally new characters in a totally new environment no one can relate to was the solution??? Seriously??? It feels more like giving the reader the finger.

It makes absolutely no sense to me, to create such an interesting group of characters, such lyrical language in the first part of the story to have it replaced by such uninventive characters and storyline afterwards. Did they switch the writer???

I absolutely cannot fathom what kind of mysterious literary trick Cronin tried to pull out of his sleeve.
If anyone has been able to figure it out, good for you...
