The People's Beach

A kid and their two moms head to the iconic People’s Beach at Jacob Riis Park for a perfect day of sun, sand, and chosen family in a joyful queer space where every body, every family, and every identity is free, seen, and celebrated.

THE BEACH IS BURSTING! 

On the outskirts of the city, there is a magical place my family goes to feel celebrated. At the People’s Beach, we shimmy, sweat, swim, and snuggle. Here, it doesn’t matter how you look, what you wear, or who you want to shuffle in the sand with. 

Stonewall Award Honoree A.M. Wild’s playful text and Ash Kwak Lukashevsky’s dynamic illustrations honor the People’s Beach at Jacob Riis Park—an iconic space for queer joy and belonging.
