Anvara is a land of warring land of cities and clans, the Anvarai a people united by a common tongue, religion and custom, and divided by everything else. Into this world Kavrenn is born, a world on the verge of violent and profound change. Even as the Anvarai war with each other, and are convulsed from within by rebellion and revolution, an empire arises in the east, hungry for new conquests.

Driven from his beloved city of Kavril, Kavrenn and his brother Tevrek must lead the resistance against the tyrant who has seized power. Yet even after they liberate their city, the danger does not subside. For the Red King of Orza seeks to conquer the Anvarai, and gathers his vast armies and the resources of his empire for the cause.

Outnumbered but defiant, Kavrenn must rally the Anvarai and get them to do what they have never done before – unite against a common foe in defense of their freedom.
