Edith Wharton (Jan 24, 1862 – Aug 11, 1937) was an American novelist and short story writer, her most known works are The House of Mirth and The Age of Innocence.. She was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature on multiple occasions. Wharton first attempted to write at the age of six. Major themes of her works came from her family relationship.

Xingu is a short story by Edith Wharton. The narrative is focused on Mrs. Ballinger, a very social woman who had organized Lunch Club – a society of her and her friends, “hunting for erudition”. Clubs routine was compromised, when a famous author, Osric Dane, agreed to take part in the next meeting, because one of the club members is not looking ahead to see Dane, thus ruining potentially perfect meeting.
