'Chapter One - The Awakening' is the first, scene-setting, instalment of an on-going writing project entitled XYZ by British author Benedict Alexander in which he invites readers to contribute suggestions which will dictate the direction in which the plot progresses.

XYZ is an on-going novel or novella in a twelve-part series of individual, monthly chapters. It sits within the thriller genre, set in an eerie, near-future dystopia with twists and turns provided not only by the author but contributions from selected readers, who will each receive a dedication at the beginning of the subsequent chapter in recognition of their contribution as well as a gift card. The first central character you will meet, Xavier, is suffering from amnesia or some form of memory loss and desperately trying to make sense of both, his surroundings and his predicament.
