The Uruguay 1930 World Football Championship or Jules Rimet 1930 World Cup (Spanish: Copa del Mundo Jules Rimet 1930, English: 1930 World Cup Jules Rimet) was the first edition of the premier competition for the major men's representative soccer teams (teams commonly referred to as "national teams") of FIFA-affiliated sports federations. It took place in Uruguay from July 13-30, 1930 in celebration of the constitution promulgated exactly a century earlier. It was the only World Cup to be played in a single city, Montevideo, the country's capital. Most of the matches were held at the Centenario Stadium, built especially for the event.Thirteen national teams (seven from South America, two from North America and four from Europe) took part in the championship. The teams were divided into four groups, in each of which the winner would qualify directly for the semifinals. The final, in front of a crowd of 93,000 spectators was won by Uruguay, which beat Argentina 4-2, thus on this occasion holding both the world and Olympic titles, the latter having been won in 1924 in Paris and confirmed in 1928 in Amsterdam.
