A Dark Week in the City of Light

A once-in-a-lifetime vacation for Detectives Emily Pederson and Melanie Lewis turns into a race against time to save Em’s mother.

Fashion Week in Paris grinds to a halt when a designer is murdered, diamonds are stolen, and Em’s mother disappears. The French police consider Beth Pederson a suspect rather than a victim, forcing Em and Mel to take matters into their own hands, but lost luggage, jetlag, and a pregnant detective hamper the investigation from the start. With time their biggest enemy, Mel’s physical interrogation techniques developed in the UFC Octagon prove more effective than Em’s high school French, but each encounter puts Mel’s baby at risk. A risk Em seems more willing to accept with each passing hour her mother goes without critical heart medication—that she didn’t know her mother was taking. While Em questions whether she ever really knew her mother, Mel questions her own ability to be a mother, having never experienced a normal family life. They lean on their faith, but in the shadow of Notre Dame, help is hard to see. Deep inside the catacombs, stress and fatigue take their toll. The best friends are soon fighting each other and drop their guard at the most inopportune time.

Darkness overwhelms in The City of Light as the investigation leads Em and Mel to places not found on any tourist map. When at last they close in, each is faced with the same nightmarish decision: to save one life, another may have to be sacrificed.
