Tales From The Edge

This is a short story book for middle / high school students. The ages of the characters are varied. Even though some first names are repeated, each short story is different. It is framed by a story about a boy that writes a book of short stories to help his mom that lost her job. There are stories about helping to save the future, to being joined to an alien slug to save a boy that has cancer. It also has a story where to save the future a boy has to save a girl at a dance, but he can't save everyone.
