The Poems and Fragments of Catullus

Gaius Valerius Catullus was a Latin poet of the late Roman Republic, who was well-known in his time. He wrote poems in neoteric style. In his poems, he describes his own life, the lives of his friends and the love he felt strongly for the women he calls Lesbia.

His poems can be divided into several groups, according to their theme.

• poems about his friends 
• erotic poems:, which could be ranging from tender love poems, sad, disappointment, and sarcasm.
• invectives: rude poems 
• condolences: serious poems

His poetry had influence on other poets, such as Virgil, Ovid and Horace, and it was appreciated by the other poets of that time. The value of his poetry can be seen in the fact that even today his poems are read and they still influence poetry.
