The board was only meant to be a game.

Instead, it brought a nightmare into our home.

The summer of 1975 was supposed to be peaceful, especially in the aftermath of the war. But on an ordinary day, our father brought home a witch board—and inadvertently threw our lives into chaos. 

The vision of something moving in the shadows is the first thing that alerts us to its presence, its appearance in my brother Jacob's dream the next. It isn't until our parents begin to witness the monster firsthand that we realize something is wrong.  

But how are we meant to fight something that isn't supposed to exist?
