Drawn to Adventure (Ireland‪)‬

In 2009 a series of fortuitous events offered Earnest Ward and his family a unique opportunity. Earnest decided to leave teaching after 20 years in the classroom; he and his wife, Misha, decided that their two homeschoolers (ages 10 and 12) were ready to experience a really memorable "field trip"; and airlines were offering particularly enticing transatlantic airfares.


This multi-media, interactive book is volume 1: covering the first leg of this artistic family's "voyage of discovery" -- from their preparation, to their initial stay in Germany, and their exploration of Irish culture, geography, and history -- through the family's own words, hand-drawn maps, drawings, paintings, photos, and videos. 


Four future volumes in the series will see their travels continue in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France, and their return to Germany. Along the way they'll travel by trains, boats, busses, and planes (and the occasional car); stay in a 500-year-old French farm house, a sublime Irish cottage, a Welsh town house with its own medieval tower, an apartment in Amsterdam with the longest/steepest stairway imaginable, and a rooms once occupied by a German duke; and experience dozens of memorable and exciting adventures (some that were planned, and a few that were quite "serendipitous.")
