Publisher Description

INTRODUCTION The covert operation by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to forcibly oust Guatemalan president Jacobo Arbenz in June 1954 has been almost completely documented now, thanks to the near-total declassification of the operation's records. It is now clear that this event represented a decisive moment in U.S. relations with Latin America during the Cold War. Not surprisingly, given the significance of the event (a fact perceived at the time), a good number of studies have been dedicated to its analysis.
