Publisher Description
Fearlessly frank and funny, the debut adult novel from Dawn O’Porter needs to be talked about.
COW [n.]
/kaʊ/
A piece of meat; born to breed; past its sell-by-date; one of the herd.
Women don’t have to fall into a stereotype.
THE COWS is a powerful novel about three women. In all the noise of modern life, each needs to find their own voice.
It’s about friendship and being female.
It’s bold and brilliant.
It’s searingly perceptive.
It's about never following the herd.
And everyone is going to be talking about it.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Feminist, funny food for thought, The Cows contemplates when—or if—women should have kids. As one of them goes viral for a very raunchy show on a train, their stories converge. With awkward hilarity, Dawn O’Porter makes her characters sweat: Cam the lifestyle blogger challenging women who take each other down, facing backlash for not wanting kids; newly single Stella, discovering that she must have her ovaries removed; Sophie, who ‘settled’ for a controlling man; and documentary-maker Tara whose one-night-stand pregnancy leaves her struggling in a male dominated industry. Through their social posts, texts and blogs, this summons perfectly the zeitgeist of being a woman today with relaxed humour and a dose of sarcasm. And O’Porter’s effervescent reading of our her own book gave us the feeling that we were hearing a terrific story direct from a friend.
