“Get yerself a flat there, Bubba?” A young man’s rolling Appalachian drawl came from not that far away.

While driving back to his small Ohio hometown on his first summer break from college, 18 year old Nick Burton’s car has a blowout and while he works to change the tire, he is approached by a young man carrying a rifle. The armed stranger says he’s out “patrolling the neighborhood,” though there isn’t another house within miles.

By the author of Good Behavior (Bloomsbury, 2010), Argentine is the story of a naive young man seduced by a charismatic psychopath, taken on a whirlwind adventure of sex, drugs and violence, which gradually intensifies until he finds himself locked into a bloody, terrifying nightmare that he cannot escape. Argentine is an exploration of guilt and complicity, and the uses and misuses of violence in a society that accepts brutality as a reasonable means to social justice.
