Blood, Tissues and Cells from Human Origin‪:‬

Using substances of human origin, transfusion of blood components and plasma derived medicinal products, and the transplantation of human tissues and cells, have long been established as lifesaving therapies. Scientific developments in transfusion and transplantation are evolving fast, and, in 2012, the European Commission initiated the process of revising the current Blood Directives, and Tissues and Cells Directives. 


The aim of this book is to present to key policy and decision makers, both in the European and National institutions, the perspective of the European Blood Alliance (EBA) on the challenges and developments surrounding blood, tissues and cells from human origin.


EBA is an association of non-profit Blood Establishments from 25 countries that, on behalf of the citizens of Europe, and from voluntary non-remunerated donors, aims to contribute to the availability, quality, safety and cost-effectiveness of blood, tissue and cell supply. EBA maintains an effective and efficient collaboration amongst European blood and tissue services. 


We hope that this book will contribute to ensuring, over the long term, the sufficient, sustainable, and safe supply of blood products, tissues and cells for patients, together with a sufficient, safe and sustainable population of donors.
