Randolph Caldecott was born on March 22, 1846 in Chester. He was a British artist and illustrator, who transformed the world of children’s books in the Victorian era. The focus of his art was on creating book illustrations. Aside from illustrating children’s books, Caldecott was illustrating novels and accounts of foreign travel, drew cartoons and many other art related works. He published his picture books every year, for Christmas, which children eagerly waited for. He died from illness on February 12, 1886.
