David's Dark Magic

Dark magic is the mysterious but good magic as different from evil black magic as a natural cavern is different from a dungeon. Dark magic works best out of the light of day: in caves and cellars, in moonlight, and most of all in starlight. The language of dark magic is called Romanzie.

It's a starry night in a city on the Rhine in the late 1800's. David, a fatherless and penniless university student, dares to work dark magic using a dusty Romanzie grammar book he found in his university library.  That night, he succeeds beyond his wildest dreams, sees horrors beyond his worst nightmares, and finds his true inheritance from his long-lost father.
