Publisher Description
Don Quixote, a middle-age nobleman in a quiet countryside town of La Mancha, is about to dash for the roads for an adventure. Driven mad to become a knight after reading hundreds of books about the heroic deeds and adventures of knighthood, the once peace-loving man turns into a gallant horseman with his fearless steed Rosinante. This sarcastic, charming novel of the great Spanish author Cervantes is a great classic for a read(you will enjoy more if you have an old set of armor lying about in your attic). Although written in humorous, sarcastic tones, Don Quixote does do some things that changes people in a better way; the beautifully written descriptions and passages give the book a classical, truly gallant feel to it.
Miguel de Cervantes, the great Spanish author of the everlasting classic Don Quixote, was born in 1547, in a village near Madrid. He had not intended to become an author, as he had worked as a soldier longer than he had worked as a writer. After he retired as a soldier, he began working as a tax collector in which he was often reported for corruption. He ended up thinking of the plots in the immortal novel Don Quixote, in the bars of jail; years passed, and after it was published he even sold the copyright to the publisher from lack of money so even when the book was famously read all over Spain, he did not earn more. In his later years he began a new life in a monastery, and finished the second volume in the Don Quixote duology in it. The great author of the 1500's Spanish literature passed away from hydrocephalus in 1616, 23th of April. Strangely, he died on the same day Shakespeare died; and so the world lost two great writers of all time that day. Cervantes was a celebrated author of then and even now, his works marvellously lavishing with foolish adventures and humorously written escapades. One of the greatest authors in history, he is known to be the icon of the Spanish literature.
