New Perspectives in Child Psychiatry

Publisher Description

Confinement was imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic which affected 183 countries, representing 94% of countries recognized by the United Nations. Confinement can be conceptualized in terms of 4 Cs: Claustration (remaining at home to avoid contact through social isolation), Compression in time and space (confined time-space), Constraint (restricted freedom, in particular for movement and travel), and Contamination, the primary risk that led to confinement. In this e-book, we examine each of these dimensions in order to understand better the possible psychological consequences of confinement, and the responses needed to prevent and treat its immediate and long-term effects. Confinement required reorganization in order to maintain psychiatric care. Based on this experience, it seems important to reconsider, after deconfinement, the mental health system by integrating distance-based tools such as teleconsultation, as well as new practices and a reflection on this topic that take into account the importance of synchronizing physiological rhythms, changing locations and physical movement. These distance-based therapeutic tools and innovative practices rely on the 4 Cs of 21st century competencies: Communication, Critical thinking, Collaboration and Creativity. New perspectives are emerging in child and adolescent psychiatry, as well as general psychiatry, in this period at the frontier between confinement and deconfinement—period which corresponds precisely to the publication of this book.
