Guarneriana library

The treasure trove of letters

Publisher Description

The Guarneriana Library of "San Daniele del Friuli" is one of the first institutions of public reading in Italy and the oldest library in Friuli Venezia Giulia. Founded by the humanist Guarnerio of Artegna (1410-1466) and further developed by Monsignor Giusto Fontanini (1666-1736), it still conserves illuminated masterpieces as the “Atlantic Bibles” of the eleventh century and the Inferno of Dante with the notes of his son Jacopo Alighieri (XV century) in the old section’s vaults.

This multi-touch book illustrates the library as a "treasure trove of letters" through a variegate set of original and multimedia contents:

- Enter inside an italian "scriptorium" and take a closer look at the writing tools used in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance

- Watch a stunning photo gallery of the the most decorated code in the ancient library with the captions made by the Guarneriana's Director

- Discover all the books preserved in Fontanini’s legacy with a zoom&pan widget

- "Live restore" a code of Dante’s Inferno from XIV century

- Virtually tour the famous Guarneriana library in walnut built between 1739 and 1742
