When Julie marries debonair film producer René she is immersed into the glamourous lifestyle of the wife of a minor celebrity. Before long she realises that René is not all that he seems and she is soon plunged into the biggest and most traumatic challenge of her life. 


Julie Marsden has learned to deal with life. She has already survived the early loss of her parents, a repressive upbringing by her aunt and a brief marriage and divorce. When her aunt dies suddenly, she moves to London but soon finds that her drab image stops her from obtaining a job. Encouraged by her best friend Penny she reinvents herself and transforms into a chic office girl.


She meets the two men in her life; David the quiet budding writer and Mark Fisher the brash son of her employer. With David she forms an intimate relationship and for a while life is idyllic.


When David goes to America, she finds solace in an offer to go to work in Paris. There she meets the debonair film producer René who introduces into his world of glamour and expensive living. René would like to make the relationship permanent, but Julie remains loyal to David. Only when she receives a letter from David announcing that he intends to marry someone else, does Julie agree to René 's offer of marriage.


Immersed into the role of being the wife of a minor celebrity, Julie tries to be the wife René demands. All too soon, she realises that she has been the innocent victim of a plan by René and his close friends to ensnare her into marrying him, carefully concealing his darkest secrets from her. Julie finds herself trapped in a loveless and unhappy marriage.


Before she can extract herself from her predicament tragedy plunges her into the biggest and most traumatic challenge of her life...will she survive?
