Publisher Description
Mouseman is a comic, dark and unsettling novel exploring the strange world of MM, a young man living in bedsit land in early 1970s London. MM works at Beech Brothers Printing and Packaging, the most limited company on God’s earth, where office rivalries, practical jokes and the distribution of stolen goods are substitutes for actual work. At home with the other eccentric tenants of the boarding house run by Mrs Flynn, he grows increasingly terrified of the mice that begin to invade his room.
Whilst hiding in a phone box to watch a young woman eating chips in the street, he spots a postcard on the wall inviting him to call Roseanna. He calls and begins to visit her, lying on her couch to tell the story of his relationship with his first and only girlfriend, Suzanne. As his grip on reality loosens, MM’s efforts to get rid of the mice become increasingly extreme. His stories grow darker and more disturbing, and start to seep into the real world...
