Publisher Description
This novella is designed for high school level French II or above. It’s a comedy about a 12-year-old Napoleon and an 18-year-old Josephine, set in Corsica, France in 1782. Napoleon fantasizes about ruling the world and his sister is worried about him, so she turns to her friend, Josephine, for help. Napoleon is instantly captivated by Josephine and will do whatever she asks. Josephine takes him to various friends to try new things and to change his mind about ruling the world. As she leaves him alone with these friends to do her errands, the antics begin, in her absence. There are 5 scenes and an epilogue. Each scene ends with an animation of the chapter with French subtitles, a gallery of images to welcome conversation and an embedded Quizlet set to practice vocabulary. There is a glossary in the back, as well as 2 pages of bite-size facts about Napoleon and Josephine, including info about the Louisiana Purchase, Napoleon II and III, The Coronation and, of course, “The Napoleon Complex”. Wait! There’s more! There’s a wiki with the animated short film, designed to be a play. There is a sample of 7th graders performing the play at the bottom of the main page of the wiki.
