Pride and Prejudice Pride and Prejudice

Publisher Description

An Apple Books Classic edition.

Jane Austen’s beloved classic opens with this witty and very memorable line: “It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.” With all the twists and turns of a soap opera, Pride and Prejudice chronicles the drama that ensues when the wealthy bachelor Mr. Darcy moves close to the Bennet family home in the English countryside. The news of his arrival sends the socially ambitious Mrs. Bennet-whose main concern is finding suitable matches for her five daughters-into overdrive.

The book’s main character, the high-spirited Elizabeth Bennet, is a strikingly modern heroine: a woman who refuses to lower her expectations or transform herself to suit society’s norms. Austen’s novel achieves a remarkable balance, serving up barbed criticism of the obsession with money, status, and matrimony even as it draws us into a swoon-worthy love story. At its heart, Pride and Prejudice is a romantic comedy, and a darned great one at that. It’s so much fun to turn the pages and wonder about Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy: Will they or won’t they overcome their excessive pride and initial prejudices to make a happily-ever-after connection?

So captivating!

I first fell in love with Elizabeth’s headstrong attitude and independent mind. How she won’t be slighted by Mr.Darcy’s wealth and reputation and constantly pokes fun at him is so refreshing and really makes the development of their characters and romance much more endearing and appreciated. Mr.Darcy is by far the most charming and intriguing character I’ve ever read and it’s impossible not to fall in love with him, I will confess though, Mr.Bennet and his sarcastic remarks are a personal favor of mine in this book. It’s definitely a must read! And I recommend the series if you haven’t already seen it.

Exciting reading yet challenging for a non-native

I’ll say that I never used the dictionary as often as while reading that book.

An extraordinary book

Hi,

If your wondering to read this book or whether it’s worth your time. YES. It is. YES.. I have completed 60% of the book and I dare say it has taught me a whole lot. Ohhh... Seriously whatever I shall write is nothing like nothing to how good this book is... So please do not depend on my writing.. Open the book and just read .

Elizabeth Bennet comes from an ordinary family. Her nature however varies considerably from the rest but quite alike her elder sister. Introduction of two wealthy men in their town is the talk of the town. Falling in love , the rollercoaster ride of character , and feeling is extraordinary.A story of pride, justice and prejudice...
