Think back two decades if you can and where are you? Here are some reminders. You’re in the Reagan era, the Thatcher years, perestroika. John Lennon was assassinated in 1980, Prince Charles and Lady Di married in 1981, the Falklands war exploded and subsided in 1982, followed rapidly by the terrible war between Iran and Iraq in 1983. Then there was the prolonged miners’ strike in the UK (1984), the hugely successful Live Aid rock concert (1985), the melt down in Chernobyl (1986) and the crash of the London Stock Market a year later – remember the interest rates? George Bush rose to the US Presidency in ‘88 and the Berlin Wall came down in ‘89.
