Squarely In the Read

Squarely in the Read is an anthology of writing created in response to the 2014 Australian Federal Budget - specifically the measures to cut tertiary funding and deregulate university fees.

Written by students, tutors, and union members, the words within examine the historical precedents of the higher education cuts, the dangers of deregulation, the future of universities in a profit-driven education market, the ins and outs of direct action, the power of anger, the issues raised by non-traditional forms of protest, and much more.

Inside these covers are song lyrics, illustrations, manifestos and critiques; most importantly, there is real engagement with the issues that the Abbott Government is all too happy to sideline. The very institution that has taught us to write is being threatened. We are defending it with our words.
