She won’t be ruled again…
Rosa Alban has been obedient her entire life. But when her alpha husband dies, she seizes the opportunity to flee the oppressive Guardians—the rulers of the secret shapeshifter world. Her flight instantly brands her as a pack traitor, and she has no choice but to seek protection from a neighboring tribe by marrying one of their sons.
Known as the Beast of Merin, Luc Black loyally plays the part of unwanted son and devoted brother. He realizes marrying Rosa will strengthen his tribe’s territory, but he has no intention of loving ever again. Still, he’s unprepared for the intense physical need the wild she-wolf awakens in him.
When the Guardians hone in on Rosa, Luc must fight to protect his new bride. And as war descends, the unlikely allies discover their destinies are irrevocably entwined…
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Rosa Alban is a powerful wolf shifter. Sick of being treated like a commodity by her own people, Rosa seeks an alliance with her neighbor, shifter Luc Black, and prepares herself to battle other shifters for her territory and her autonomy. Rosa is hamstrung by the desire to protect the nonshifters who were enslaved by her late husband, and though Luc is enticed by the possibility of a territory of his own, he is also haunted by the memory of a wife who has been dead for over 60 years. Luc and Rosa's attempts to form a plan and forge an alliance are muddled by too many side characters, including Guardians, Original Guardians, Walkers, Bleidds, a goddess, the Council, a wulfling, and a half-mad seer. Their differing political agendas only muddy the plot. DeLima's ambition is admirable, but the romance is unfortunately buried and the resolution to the dramatic conflict is sudden and unrewarding.
