Just then the door jingled and a guy who I'd never seen before came in, looking around as if slightly anxious. Tommy immediately kicked into life; he was expert at putting the new ones or the nervous ones at ease with his smile and a pleasant greeting.
"Good morning!" he said warmly, beaming at the guy, “Welcome Sir”.
The guy stepped forward, seeming like he was another one of those nervous types. I watched him move. Boy, he was fit. He might be nervous right now but just give me ten minutes of working my magic on him and I’d soon get him relaxed. I’d have him eating out of my hand.
"Uh, hi, I have an appointment." The newbie stuttered.
"Michael?" Tommy clicked on his name as I leaned on the counter, taking the guy in at close quarters. He was big, not over muscled, but obviously an athlete of some kind. Good-looking didn't even begin to describe him with his chiselled jaw and his 2-day designer stubble. He was actually shaking and looked as though he might turn round and clear off out at any second, so nervy.
I knew how he felt, as I said, lots of first timers are like that, especially when faced with someone like Tommy as soon as they walk through the door. He probably thought everyone here was on some kind of a trip, staring at him like Tommy was, especially when I started to smile at him too; two of us behind the counter smiling at him and making him feel even worse than when he first came in the place..
But it was part of my job to make sure everyone felt comfortable and relaxed, that’s what they were here for, to feel good in themselves, and I was sure I could get this guy to loosen up and de-stress. It was just a matter of the right touch in the right place at the right time.
"Hi, Michael," I said, reaching out to shake his hand, "I'm Ben; I'll be taking care of you today."
Michael took my hand slowly, but in a firm grip, and he flashed a half-smile that said he wasn't too enthusiastic to be here; maybe this was his first-ever massage? Who knows? I asked him to follow me.
"So what seems to be troubling you?" I asked, leading the way through the mint-colored hallways, past other rooms with their closed doors and ‘busy’ signs displayed. The other boys were obviously hard at work already.
"It's my back." Michael sighed and went in the room before me as I held the door open for him.
The room was cool and softly lit, like all the other rooms; it was a good way of relaxing the mind and getting the clients in the right mood for a massage. A partition stood in the corner of the room and I directed him towards it so that he could get undressed privately.
"Injury?" I asked, watching the outline of his body behind the screen as he stripped off, finally removing his boxers and grabbing the towel off the wall peg. I looked at his face and then down his body; this guy was built, not an inch of fat to be seen anywhere. This one was well worth going the extra mile for. I’d use every trick I knew to get my hands on his meat slab before the session ended.
