Adrian and her scrappy cousin Snider have endured a love-hate relationship since childhood. When his body is found smoked to a crisp in his smokehouse, she speculates that he may have been involved in shading dealings gone awry. Could they have concerned Mobeetie, the land-obsessed manager of the ranch she and Snider have inherited? Or Madam, the mysterious gypsy woman Snider gave refuge to?
