Sasha is so drained that she eats at Pret for dinner every night and, after a particularly fraught experience with her HR department, tries to join a convent. From there, we head to the beach and back to Sasha’s childhood as she tries to fix her exhausted—and grieving—self. There is a cantankerous yet handsome man of course, but The Burnout is as much about Sasha trying to rediscover the person she once was after one too many years spent being overworked and underpaid. All too relatable for anyone who has worked for a company that claims to care about wellbeing while neglecting its workforce, this wintry seaside romance is also a thought-provoking look at mental health and the way we work today.
