It was approaching 8 o’clock and a nice fish supper would go down well.’
They had a slow walk through the village talking as they went.
Andy said. ‘Joe I’m not kidding I did not like the look of that tall man today, I don’t know why but I get the feeling that he was there because of us.’ ‘I know Andy but maybe it's because he thinks there’s treasure at the end of the road.’ ‘Aye you might be right but there’s something about that guy that’s getting to me.’ ‘Oh and what’s that.’ ‘Well it could be me again but every time we go to the Fox there’s a little grubby guy there too. Who sits on the table next to us every time we go to the pub, I mean one night, it was the night before last, I was watching him like a hawk, because the table next to us was taken. He just stood at the bar and every now and again he would look in our direction.’ ‘Well that could be nothing Andy.’ ‘Yes maybe, but the people at the table next to us left, and within two minutes he was at the table next to us.’ ‘It could be he just likes that table, so tonight with the girls not here we will stand at the bar and just see what he does.’
When they arrived at the Fox and Hounds they went straight to the bar Joe ordered two pints while Andy looked around for the little grubby man.
They stood and talked for about half an hour. Joe saluted Andy and said. ‘Don’t look now but, you have got company.’
Andy turned to see the little man not six inches away from his elbow.
He turned back to face Joe and said with a wink of his eye. ‘Well Joe, did you catch your villain today or was your police work all in vain.’ Joe took up what Andy had started. ‘Yes, Andy, we got him today, he will get twenty years if I have anything to do with it.’
Andy nodded for them to take their drinks over to the table in the corner they sat down and Andy said. ‘What’s the betting he will come to the table on your right within five minutes?’ Just as Andy had finished saying this the little grubby man picked up his drink and came to the table next to them.
Andy winked again, then stood up with his drink in his hand and they both walked back to the bar.
Andy looked at Joe and said. ‘I don’t know what he is up to Joe but if things go on much longer I will do something to that little shit believe me.’ ‘No Andy you never know it might be he just likes that table, I mean he has not followed us back to the bar.’ ‘Yes, very well Joe but all I’m worried about is if he heard us talking the other night, and he could hardly follow us back here that would give his little game away, no I still have a funny feeling about that little guy.’ As Andy said this Joe looked over to the table and caught the little guy watching them.
