When Alec Smart, Sales Director with the Merlin Magic and Mirth Co, makers of tricks and jokes, is run over by a bus this is not exactly the way he'd intended leaving. The way he'd wanted to go was via a less permanent route, one which would immortalise the Salesman's Award he had accidentally spawned as an alibi to his wife for a weekend or two with the lovely Mitzi. His ambition was to have the award named in his memory and somehow still allow him to be there to bask in its glory. But Alec doesn't intend to take the little setback of being more dead than he'd planned lying down, even when confronted with the File on his life below and his Personal Heavenly Interviewer. Come what may Alec wants his life back, and is determined to persuade his new friend to help him. And when he finally succeeds, yet again it is not in the way he'd intended. But Alec isn't giving up. . . .
