Publisher Description
All of the fun, none of the heartache…as long as they stick to the agreement.
The proposition is simple: if ER nurse Claire Harper and her roommate, firefighter Graham Scott, are still single by the time they’re forty, they’ll take the proverbial plunge together…as friends with benefits. Maybe it’s the wine, but in the moment, Claire figures the pact is a safe-enough deal, considering she hasn’t had much luck in love and he’s in no rush to settle down. Like, at all. Besides, there’s no way she could ever really fall for Graham and his thrill-seeking ways. Not after what happened to her father…
Just as things begin to heat up way before the proposed deadline, Graham’s injured in a serious rock climbing accident—and he needs Claire’s help to heal. She’ll do whatever it takes to nurse him back to health…even if it means moving in to Graham’s bed and putting up with his little dog, who hates her. But with this no-strings arrangement taking a complicated turn, keeping “for now” from turning into “forever” isn’t as easy as they’d planned.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Two friends try to keep it platonic despite their incredible chemistry in this charming romance. Fiercely independent ER nurse Claire and her handsome firefighter roommate, Graham, are just about ready to give up on finding love. The solution? A pact that will transform their friendship into one with juicy benefits in nine years—when they hit 40. But what begins as a safety net for the future flips a switch in the present, as the agreement transforms their casual spark of attraction into a fiercely hot flame. We loved the smouldering heat between these two. But their story is full of tender moments, too, like when Claire helps Graham recover from a rock-climbing injury that leaves him unable to speak (resulting in some sweet notes and hilarious email exchanges). Filled with memorable characters—Graham’s moody Yorkshire terrier, Gertrude, is a definite highlight—The Roommate Pact is a pitch-perfect tale of finding love when you least expect it.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Ashley's banter-filled standalone sequel to Would You Rather puts a cute spin on the friends-with-benefits trope. Emergency room nurse Claire Harper, 31, comes home every day exhausted but happy from her 12-hour shift. Life with her two roommates, grad student Reagan and fireman Graham, is good, though she wishes she were in a relationship. Wine glass in hand, Claire muses about the dearth of datable guys, leading her into a pact with Graham that they'll hook up at 40 if nothing better turns up, just to satisfy their sex drives. Adrenaline junkie Graham is in no rush for a relationship himself, preferring camping, climbing, and mountain biking to checking in with a significant other at home. Then a climbing accident leaves Graham seriously banged up and, as Claire helps nurse him back to health, they realize just how much they already mean to each other. But will either be brave enough to make their feelings known? Claire and Graham's chemistry jumps off the page, and Ashley surrounds them with charming friends (including some familiar faces for series fans), family, and a tiny dog named Gertrude. Friends-to-lovers fans are sure to be pleased.
