The Strange Fruit Diaries reads as a dynamic conversation between author and society that is both seductive and uncomfortable. It provides a riveting on-again, off-again affinity that binds African Americans--and most Southerners-- to religion. It aggressively exposes the slave mentality that perpetuates itself generations later, while bravely dissecting the pathology of the home front from a 21st century point-of-view.


There is no blame along this journey. There is no “white devil.” There is only one desire: Freedom. It is with that goal that I have written this piece. I have written it with the person who struggles to conform to a world so different than their own truth in mind. This is not a coming out story as much as it is a story that gives an account of going within to discover one's true self.
