Based Upon True Events That Rocked a City! It starts in New Orleans, 1911. Italian couples are murdered in their beds, purportedly while sleeping. Someone sneaks inside and chops them to pieces with an ax. The police initially suspect mafia connections, but this is like no mafia killing they’ve seen before. The culprit never caught, the murders stop—until 1918 when the “Axeman” makes his bloody return. The Axeman spreads fear. The newspapers call the murders “a veritable epidemic,” but the killer still evades capture. Young Carlito Mastriani thinks he knows the Axeman’s terrible origins. To save his community, he will risk his sanity to stop this bloodthirsty butcher, no matter if the Axeman is human or, as Carlito suspects, a creature from the dark netherworld.
