Why‪?‬

This poem was written by Marina soon after her marriage in 1958. It beautifully illustrates how she would so often muse on her surroundings, asking what might have come before – and what might happen later. Leading perhaps to plots or characters for some of her 85 novels.
The last verse is a fitting reminder of her leaving.
