First published in 1920, this is a charming and easy-to-read autobiography that takes the reader into a world now long gone, as seen through the eyes of an intelligent and privileged boy. Lord Hamilton remains remarkably unfazed by his family's connections to Prime Ministers and royalty through his father's various political appointments, and fills his memoir with amusing and revealing anecdotes and vignettes of many famous acquaintances. Although firmly 'of its time', it offers an insight to a child's view of the mindset of the upper/ruling class of the generation that would witness their society disintegrate and fall into the chaos of two world wars.
