Voyages of Samuel De Champlain — Volume 01

Publisher Description

The labors and achievements of the navigators and explorers, who visited the coasts between the last years of the fifteenth and the early years of the seventeenth centuries, were naturally enough not fully appreciated by their contemporaries, nor were their relations to the future growth of European interests and races on this continent comprehended in the age in which they lived. Having arrived at Cadiz, and the object of the voyage having been accomplished, the French ships were dismissed, with the exception of the "St. Julian", which was retained, with the Provincial Captain, who had accepted the office of pilot-general for that year, in the service of the King of Spain.
