Through Three Campaigns
Publisher Description
This is the story of a young British officer who's amazing feats bring him promotion, glory and riches in equal measure. Sadly, it is written in that awful Victorian style that fills the descriptions of the battles with comments like "a dashing affair", "splendid heroism", "hideous business", etc. Whilst our hero is foolhardily brave, sickeningly contrite and totally unassuming; pretty much a genuine all round "good egg" if you know what I mean. Some of his (the hero; Bullen's) long conversations with an army pal, Hallett are just excruciatingly naive and laughably contrived.
