In this classic British village mystery by Martha Grimes, Scotland Yard detective Richard Jury investigates a baffling murder in the eccentric English village of Littlebourne.
A spinster whose passion was bird-watching, a dotty peer who pinched pennies, and a baffling murder made the tiny village of Littlebourne a most extraordinary place. And a severed finger made a ghastly clue in the killing that led local constables from a corpse to a boggy footpath to a beautiful lady’s mansion.
But Richard Jury takes the less traveled route to a slightly disreputable pub, the Anodyne Necklace. There, drinks all around loosened enough tongues to link a London mugging with the Littlebourne murder and a treasure map that would chart the way to yet another chilling crime.

Narrator performance.
I had bought this audiobook 5/6 years ago which unfortunately I lost due to not backing up my iPod.
I decided to repurchase it a few days ago because I really had enjoyed it in the past and the narrative was excellent. Each character from the book was portrayed beautifully.
This time round Steve West’s performance seems like he is bored, to put it politely. The text has been changed in some parts and I can not figure out why such difference and why change the narrative at all?
A waste of money.
