Writing Home is the first of four wonderfully entertaining collections of Alan Bennett's prose.


Bringing together Alan Bennett's diaries for 1980-1995 and the journal he kept during the production of Forty Years On starring John Gielgud, the book also includes accounts of his many television plays, the introduction to his Oscar-nominated screenplay for The Madness of King George and, at its heart,The Lady in the Van, the true account of Miss Mary Shepherd, a homeless tramp who took up residence in Bennett's garden and stayed for fifteen years.
