The pain is constant. And so is the guilt.

And every day, I feel the pressure to do something. Hiding isn't the answer. I've tried that, and it doesn't make the pain and guilt go away. Besides, our hidden pocket world refuge is under threat and with the two realms trying to tear themselves apart, soon there won't be anywhere left for us to hide.

I'm not a hero. The pain, the power, the oh-so-tempting darkness I can feel growing inside me—I never asked for any of it. In fact, I've spent my entire life trying to avoid it. To be different from the evil witches who birthed me. And yet… that awful power might be the only thing that saves us all.

If it doesn't destroy me in the process.
