John Locke was an English philosopher and physician, one of the most prominent Enlightenment thinkers, known as the “Father of Liberalism”. 


“A Letter Concerning Toleration”, published in 1689, is the reaction on the problem of religion and attempt to propose the religious toleration as the answer. In 17th century it was believed that the government has the right to force dissenters to apply the merits of Anglicanism, the True Religion. In the letter Locke argues that all religious practices should be tolerated unless they are a threat to the proper functioning of the state.
