Across Divides, Against the Grain: On "Negotiations: From a Piece of Land to a Land of Peace" (Discussions‪)‬

The current Palestinian Intifada is not simply a localized nalionalist response to the repressive Israeli occupation and its war machine. Rather, it is local, regional, and global in its dimensions and implications. It is important to rethink the practices through which we respond to the conflict and the struggles of the Palestinian people as part of our anti-imperialist interventions and in our international/transnational practices of solidarity. Negotiations was a multi-part arts-driven event staged in Toronto in June 2003 by artisits, activists and academics who felt the urgency to respond to the escalation of war in Palestine-Israel in solidarity with Palestinian struggles towards a just peace. Les dimensions et les implications de l'infada sont locales, regionales et globales. II importe de considerer les pratiques de nos interventions anti-imperialistes et de nos pratiques de solidarite internationale el transnationale par lesquelles nous repondons au conflit et aux luttes du peuple palestinien. En juin 2003, des artistes, des activistes et des universitaires torontois avaient cree Negociations, un evenement multidisciplinaire qui soulignait l'urgence qu'il y a de repondre a I'escalade de la guerre entre la Palestine et l'Israel el de manifester notre solidarite avec la lutte des Palestiniens pour la paix.
