The full implications of Austin's behavior don't become apparent until the action shifts to 1965, when Demidov's wife and two adolescent daughters travel to New York City as part of a delegation intended to ease cold war tensions, and tragedy ensues. Most readers will reach the final page with regret and in awe of Smith's uncompromising vision of the realities of a police state and the toll it takes on those caught in its meshes.

Interesting
I've read all the books, they are really interesting and captures perfectly the mood of life in soviet union. Even if seems to be unreal people lived worse than how it's described. Fear of speaking, fear to meet smb, fear to wear a pair of jeans because they were created in USA....I expect more from this book, read only the preview. The price of digital is higher than in library....it's abnormal! 4*
