Descrizione dell’editore

Lieutenant BERNARD BUNBURY (Naval Reserve) had retired three years earlier after a lifetime at sea both in the Navy and as a Master Mariner in cargo ships. Recalled to service he was given command of the careworn inshore ship “Audacieux” and required to get it seaworthy in a short time.

"Furchterregend” was a relatively small converted merchant ship of 4000 tons crewed by 270 officers and men. Her task was to destroy or disrupt the logistics of the enemy on the open sea by attacking its merchant shipping. The Captain, Korvettenkapitän ALBERICH SCHIFFER was a graduate of The German Imperial Naval Academy (Marineakademie) at Kiel, Germany. Also on-board are a diverse group of sailors each with their own past and hopes for the future.

The story portrays the pointlessness of war, while focusing on the companionship of men in combat conditions.
