Descrizione dell’editore

Installation Art is the visualisation of an inner experience in a three-dimensional expression.

The crossover between Archaeology and Art had metaphorical significance for the Artist with her intervention on this landscape of Thaba Eco in the Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve. She was directly involved in the archaeological dig at this site, which became the inspiration for the installation of Artworks close to the ruins of the Iron Age people settlement.

It became a site that allowed her to consider her own roots and history. The Artist’s imprints on the landscape takes the form of a journey through timelines on a network of cobblestone paths.

This Installation Art project is presented in two parts: ‘DIGGINGS’ and ‘MEDITATION TRAIL’ - in total more than twenty artworks in the journey.

The Artworks visible at various points on this landscape have special significance as a visual representation of the intersect between Culture, Art, and Archaeology. The Artworks elicit the viewer or participant to engage in a parallel personal, reflective journey.

By creating personal imprints and art installations, another archaeological layer was added to the site together with those of the existing Iron Age archaeological layers. To the early inhabitants, bonds associated with kinship, familiarity with a geographic area, its natural resources and spiritual beliefs were very important. These values inspired the creation of the Artworks and the creative processes used by the Artist – thereby showcasing a shared basic humanity as well as a shared awareness of the significance of communication, family, memory, and the passage of time.
